Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, a national leader in research, education, and clinical care, is announcing the search for Chair of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader to provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the Department, including education, research, and clinical care.

IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 25,000 alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Its diverse faculty is made up of 3,095 full-time members and 3,783 volunteer faculty responsible for training medical, graduate, and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana.

The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics was founded in 1966 as one of the first human genetics departments in the country. The department ranks 6th in NIH funding nationally, with total grant funding increasing 70% in 2022 to $60.6M. Additionally, the department has a clinical trial revenue of $2.85M. Areas of research strength include computational biology, neuroscience, musculoskeletal and cancer research. The faculty's unique expertise provides a broad range of clinical training to fit career interests. The Department's close collaboration with key labs and cores such as the Center for Medical Genomics, the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and the Cancer Bioinformatics Core contribute to the research capability. The department is home to the Undiagnosed Rare Disease Clinic, a NORD-designated Center of Excellence in pediatric genetics and genomic testing. Further, the CAP and CLIA certified Genetic Testing Laboratories (IUGTL), including the IU Cytogenetic Laboratory, IU Molecular and Pharmacogenomic Laboratory and the Biochemical Genetic Laboratory enhance strength in the respective areas. Educational programs aim to improve human health through research in genetics and apply the knowledge gained to further training and clinical service. The department offers both Master's and PhD programs to fit a broad range of career interests, including genetic counseling and research.

This position is ideal for a collaborative and transformational leader who can build on existing strengths in the department and has the vision to expand research and educational functions through new programs aligned with the Department's mission statement. Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. Minimum qualifications include an MD, PhD or MD/PhD. Academic appointment type is open and will be determined based on academic credentials. The individual selected for this position must be a highly accomplished leader with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and change management skills, as well as demonstrating a strong commitment to upholding our core values, including promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
