The Akey laboratory (https://akeylab.princeton.edu), located in the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University, invites applications for multiple postdoctoral or more senior research positions in Human Population and Evolutionary Genomics.
The successful candidates will leverage existing and novel massively large genomics datasets from ancient and contemporary individuals to better understand human history and the mechanisms of evolutionary change. The specific research program will be tailored to the interests of the individual, but we are particularly interested in archaic hominin admixture, the functional and phenotypic consequences of introgressed hominin DNA, empirical and theoretical studies of how selection influences extant patterns of human genomic diversity, and the evolution of functional genomics phenotypes such as gene expression levels. Although these are primarily computational positions, there will be opportunities to develop experimental collaborations (for example, to study the functional effects of adaptively introgressed DNA). In addition, the successful candidate will benefit from the strong interdisciplinary and collaborative atmosphere in the Lewis-Sigler Institute, and have the opportunity to interact with many outstanding research groups in computational, statistical, and functional genomics (including John Storey, Olga Troyanskaya, Mona Singh, Britt Adamson, Michelle Chan, and Yuri Pritykin).
Appointments are for one year, with possibility for renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding.
The Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, housed in the Carl Icahn Laboratory at Princeton University, was established to innovate in research and teaching at the interface of modern biology and complementary quantitative sciences. Essential Qualifications: - PhD in Computational Biology, Population Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or other disciplines with strong quantitative backgrounds. - Strong programming skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in population genetics analyses and working with large sequencing data sets. - Strong background in statistical inference. - Highly motivated and independent. - Strong writing and communication skills.
