MEDICAL & MOLECULAR GENETICS (IN-MMGE-IUINA)

One of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. The department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.

The Scalable Compute Archive (SCA) builds, delivers, and operates customized full stack web applications integrated with secure data management systems and scientific software application pipelines. Department Specific Responsibilities

• Prototypes, develops, and tests full-stack web applications using modern Javascript frameworks and libraries.
• Improves and maintains existing projects (Vue.js) Works on distributed systems that process large amounts of data.
• Works with stakeholders and developers to identify complex system needs including security concerns, resource requirements, needed software and dependencies and implement them in the final system.
• Develops unit and integration tests for existing service stacks.
• Writes documentation for end users.
• Provides experienced analysis and programming related to the design, development, and support of research systems.
• Develops and implements well-engineered software that supports and enriches research productivity and reliability; evolves software development and data services with the corresponding research to ensure that modern standards of reproducible code are kept.
• Operates, monitors, and maintains the integrity of a broad scope of cyber infrastructure systems (storage, cluster computing, databases, virtual machines, network...)
• Provides experienced consultation to researchers in the use of a broad set of state-of-the-art research systems, tools, and software to enable research productivity; partner with researchers to co-create and co-learn relevant computing and data capabilities.
• Connects, facilitates, and participates in interactions between researchers and technology providers; provides regular communication to systems and software/data professionals.
• Engages and advises a broad set of researchers through support requests and providing advanced understanding (i.e. email, ticketing systems, chats); follow and contribute in establishing best practice documentation, processes and procedures to resolve support requests.
• Supports and collaborates with researchers and other key IT and Data Center partners.
• Enhances service delivery by learning and having a full understanding of local research computing and data resources.
• Works on grant funded projects with a diverse set of stakeholders including cyber infrastructure professionals and faculty members.

General Responsibilities

• Provides experienced analysis and programming related to the design, development, and support of systems.
• Consults with stakeholder(s) to define system requirements, problems, and proposals; conducts detailed studies, presents detailed requirements/designs to the stakeholder(s), and obtains agreement and approval for proposed updates/changes.
• Prepares conversion and systems implementation plans and schedules; translates system design to detailed program specifications.
• Documents systems analysis and programming efforts (changes, new functionality, issue/problem resolution); performs system unit and integration testing and presents final test results to stakeholder(s) and/or leadership.
• Researches and stays up-to-date with new standards, tools, and emerging technology and services and makes recommendations for possible short-term, mid-term or long-term integration.
• Ensures that all protocols used in the design and programming of systems are up to date and compliant with university policies and standards.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years of systems programming/analysis or related experience

• Excited to deal with interesting challenges. Capable of identifying creative solutions when faced with unfamiliar tasks or unusual error conditions.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position is eligible for remote work, subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Selected candidate will be offered $47,132.80 per year to $68,827.20 per year based upon experience and internal equity within the department.
