We are seeking a bright and motivated individual for a Research Technician I position in the laboratory of Andrew Luster, M.D., Ph.D., in the Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases (CIID). The CIID is a multidisciplinary research center whose goal is to discover new molecular pathways that regulate the host immune and inflammatory response to allergic, autoimmune, infectious, and malignant diseases.
Dysfunction of the immune system is responsible for causing or worsening many diseases. Allergic diseases, such as asthma, are caused by an inappropriate immune response to harmless environmental proteins while respiratory viruses, such as influenza, cause much of their pathology by unleashing a dysregulated over exuberant immune response. Our laboratory studies the initial cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to these perturbations of immune responses in the lung and other tissues. To do this, we utilize in vivo mouse models of asthma and influenza as well as translational studies of humans with asthma and a wide variety of research techniques, including flow cytometry, microscopy, cell culture, and gene expression analysis. We are looking for a research technician to play an interactive and integral role in these studies working under the supervision of a post-doctoral fellow in the lab.
Candidates for this position should have previous hands on laboratory experience and a strong interest in immunology and molecular biology. Candidates interested in a two year or longer commitment are strongly preferred.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties will include, but are not exclusive to:
molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, and quantitative PCR
isolation and purification of primary cells from mouse samples
flow cytometry
immunofluorescence staining for general and confocal microscopy
general mouse husbandry
performance of mouse models of asthma
participation in general laboratory responsibilities, including ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and ensuring maintenance of equipment
Qualifications Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree, with coursework in related fields (such as Immunology and Molecular Biology or Biochemistry) strongly preferred
reliable, organized, and able to work independently as well as with other members of the research team
proficiency with computer software, including Excel
