The Precision Genomics Laboratory (PGL), a partnership between the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology, and the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM), at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) has an opening for a Senior Clinical Bioinformatics Scientist to work in a fast-paced, clinical environment. The laboratory has a strong focus in constitutional diagnostics to support personalized medicine initiatives. The selected candidate for this exciting effort will focus on creating and maintaining robust, clinical-quality pipelines for processing next-generation sequencing data. The position includes supporting laboratory operations and participation in new assay development and test validation.
Building and maintaining Bioinformatics pipelines in a CAP/CLIA clinical environment.
Optimize performance and reliability of clinical analysis pipelines.
Design, implement, and test novel and reproducible NGS analysis methods.
Migrate processes from R&D to production and support clinical production needs.
Implement and document processes for regulatory purposes.
Work closely with colleagues in the IGM to help ensure alignment of research-based bioinformatics activities with clinical bioinformatics, direction where appropriate.
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of experience.
Minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in a molecular diagnostic laboratory/ company.
Experience working in CAP-CLIA clinical lab is strongly preferred.
A PhD in Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline.
Experience with clinical documentation and CAP guidelines for test validation, etc.
Experience with Illumina Dragen software.
Demonstrated experience with building and maintaining pipelines for next generation sequencing analysis.
Extensive knowledge of at least one language: Python, Java or Perl as well as Bash or other functional scripting languages.
Experience designing relational database schemas and query optimization.
Experience with high performance computing environments and/or cloud-based environments. ??
Ability to work well together in cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
