At the Stanford Center for Biomedical Research (BMIR) we develop cutting-edge ways to acquire, represent, and process information about human health. In order to handle the ever increasing amounts of data in healthcare and biomedical research, our faculty, students, and staff investigate and create novel computational, statistical, organizational, and decision-making methods. Our research advances the state of the art in semantic technology, biostatistics, and the modeling of biomedical systems to benefit clinical and translational research as well as patient care.
The Gevaert lab at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research is looking for a junior-level software engineer with outstanding technical skills, advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with designing and developing a multi-modal computational framework for comprehensive modeling of complex diseases. The successful candidate will be self-directed, thrive in a collaborative research environment, and be excited by the opportunity to take a hands-on role in creating this platform. The responsibilities of the position will include designing, implementing, and documenting computational algorithms implementing several biomedical use cases. The candidate will be a core member of a rapidly growing research lab and will work closely with other researchers, developers, and collaborators from other centers, including national and international collaborators. This role requires the employee to carry out complex problem analysis; to design, implement, optimize and test technically deep solutions to novel problems and; to develop innovative and robust solutions to end-user and research oriented problems in the context of biomedicine.
Duties include:
Assess user needs and requirements.
Design and develop applications that may involve sophisticated data manipulation.
Maintain and update existing programs.
Troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
Create programs to meet reporting and analysis needs.
Design and implement user and operations training programs.
Document changes in software for end users.
Follow team software development methodology.
Serve as technical resource with respect to applications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in biomedical data analysis including next-Generation Sequencing Analysis (Exome-Seq, RNA-Seq ,ChIP-seq, scRNA-sq)
Experience in bioinformatics data analysis including microarray data analysis, clinical data analysis and network methods.
Experience in biomedical image data analysis such as digital pathology, medical photographs or radiographic image analysis
Proficient in at least 2 programming languages including python, R, Cluster Computing, Shell Scripting) and other technologies such as HTML, CSS, MySQL, DB2, SQLite
Documented expertise in applied Machine Learning including: pytorch, scikit-learn, Keras, TensorFlow, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Current knowledge of latest software and design standards.
Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications.
Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.
Strong knowledge of at least one programming language.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $77,000 to $125,000 per annum/hour.
