Job Summary: | The Communicable Disease Division performs genomic sequencing on a growing number of pathogens of public health concern. The LIMS Administrator will oversee and support the development, implementation and maintenance of sequencing workflows and processes within the Illumina Clarity LIMS environment. The LIMS Administrator will work closely with IT, laboratory, and bioinformatics staff to support instrument interfaces and automation. This position is on-site at 2601 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718. Remote work may be considered at the discretion of the hiring manager. |
Responsibilities: | Identifies, analyzes, designs, and implements systems, programs, and modules for the improvement, enhancement, and on-going maintenance of an institution's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), instrument interfaces, and interfaces with external customers. Works with external partners to facilitate and implement electronic ordering and data reporting (ELR/ETOR) from their systems into and out of the LIMS using custom protocols. Identifies, reviews, and develops new analytical methodologies and sample preparation techniques. Performs high complexity testing and reports results for chemical constituents in specimens and samples collected from humans, plants, animals, or other environmental matrices. Serves as a subject matter technical expert for both analytical methods and for LIMS administration to internal and external stakeholders. - 20% Maintains and improves current functioning of the LIMS and the associated instrument interfaces
- 10% Analyzes LIMS system needs and trouble shoots system problems, identifying and implementing appropriate technical solutions
- 20% Designs and builds new tests and procedures in the LIMS according to department and organizational needs including necessary customer reporting and any associated instrument interfacing
- 5% Works with internal and external partners to design, implement, and maintain electronic data transmission (Orders in, Results out) between our systems and theirs using custom systems
- 10% Designs and implements testing plans for system updates, upgrades, and processes or functions of the LIMS, instrument interfaces, and data transmission
- 10% Serves as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact to the LIMS provider and other external partners or customers
- 10% Serves as the liaison between the laboratory's analytical staff and the IT staff
- 5% Utilizes, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation, including non-routine instrument maintenance and repairs
- 10% Serves as a subject matter expert, supporting and/or training new employees, students, and other professional colleagues in the use the LIMS and the use and implementation of analytical testing

Qualifications: | Required: - 1 to 2 years' experience administrating LIMS systems - 1 to 2 years' experience with Illumina Clarity LIMS - Professional experience working with IT and laboratory personnel - Professional experience working with customers to learn about their needs, gather requirements, recommend solutions, and assist with solution implementation
Preferred: - Experience with regulatory CLIA standards and CAP accreditation - Experience creating, maintaining, and following service and technical documentation for assigned projects and services |

Salary: | Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The base minimum annual salary for this position is $65,000/year. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
