The Clinical Genome Resource team (ClinGen, www.clinicalgenome.org) is a research program funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute that supports central resources to define the clinical relevance of genes and variants for use in precision medicine and research. We are seeking a UI/UX Developer to play a critical role on our tightly knit team of clinical genomics staff, biocurators and software engineers. This UI/UX Developer position will play a vital role in providing services within the ClinGen software ecosystem.
Job Duties
Responsibilities will include working closely with various groups of scientists, physicians, researchers, and software engineers to create and implement compelling and highly functional applications, both within Geisinger and in collaboration with Geisinger's ClinGen partners. This includes UI/UX design and implementation within existing and new applications. The successful applicant will have strong UI/UX design skills, but will also need equally strong full-stack development skills.
Prototypes, designs, develops, tests, and maintains engaging mobile and web multi-tiered applications to meet challenging business needs.
Translates user requirements into clean, modern UI/UX designs and work within a small development team to bring designs to fruition
Provides time estimates and completes tasks in the Agile development environment.
Defines technical architecture, writes, and presents detailed design and technical system specifications and maintenance documentation of projects.
Creates modern user interfaces based on business needs and helps drive the evolution of current user interfaces to meet future business needs.
Actively engages in technical discussions, shares ideas, and contributes to cohesive development framework and coding standards.
Develops new user-facing features.
Designs and creates user interfaces that reflect minimal effort for interaction and adoption, as evidenced in fidelity metrics designated for each project.
Builds reusable code and libraries for future use.
Ensures the technical feasibility of UI and UX designs.
Optimizes application for maximum speed and scalability.
Assures that all user input is validated before submitting to the back-end.
Provides design experience and design to both front end and back-end developers
This position has the option to work remotely, however, the applicant may be asked to travel several times a year for group meetings or conferences. Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Graphics Design, or relevant Engineering discipline and four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience highly preferred.
Skills:
Exceptionally strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical associates is required
Experience in Web design and Object-Oriented Programming in a Linux/Unix environment is required
Experience in general graphic design, suitable for proposals and presentations, is required
Experience in PHP, Bootstrap CSS, and jQuery (or similar JavaScript-based language ) is required
Experience and understanding of all aspects of the software development life cycle and quality control practices is highly desired
Experience in Laravel Frameworks and ProcessWire CMS is highly desired
Experience in data design, architecture, relational database, and data modeling is highly desired
Experience in Vue and Tailwinds is a plus
Experience in long term product planning is also a plus
