Who We Are
The Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (CIS) is a community of people committed to tackling some of the world's biggest challenges by working together across multiple colleges and two Cornell campuses. CIS is home to the three academic departments that power the information economy: Computer Science, Information Science and Statistics and Data Science. It also shares faculty and is a partner in the department of Computational Biology. The college is known for bold new ideas expressed in deep mathematics, innovative software systems, groundbreaking textbooks, inspiring curricula, imaginative experiments, and entrepreneurial and commercial impact. Its majors which represent more than twelve percent of the undergraduate student body, is six times higher than it was a decade ago. Half of all undergraduates on the Ithaca campus take at least one CIS course during their time at Cornell. CIS is responding to this tremendous growth in student interest by continuing to increase its faculty by an additional 33% in the next five years. CIS shares faculty with Cornell Tech, as well as two joint departments, shared with several other colleges. CIS is the lead dean for the largest joint department. Design is starting on a new building to accommodate this growth, providing space for innovative research and teaching initiatives.
Members of the CIS Sponsored Research Administration Center (SRAC) team provide centralized pre-award and post award management support to faculty Principal Investigators (PI's) in its three departments. Our mission is to add value to Cornell Bowers College by collaborating with faculty to provide superior service, reduce administrative burdens, create efficiencies, and provide expertise in navigating sponsor guidelines throughout the proposal development process to facilitate assembly and submission of successful proposals.
What You Will Do
The Pre-Award Specialist will be responsible for serving as a primary point person for PI's across the College regarding proposal submissions, coordinating with administrative managers, department chairs/directors, central finance, and various funding agency representatives to respond to pre-award related issues and questions during the proposal submission process and pre-award period.

This position also requires collaboration with fellow team members to ensure coverage of all departmental needs and objectives, including but not limited to routine administrative tasks, the orientation of new faculty, and cross-training with colleagues internally and across campus. This position will develop and communicate standard procedures and expectations related to proposal submission, and provide updates and data related to pending proposal submissions. This position also maintains the internal database (CISIS) to support both pre and post award administration.

What We Need
* Associate's Degree in business, communication, or related field and 2-4 years of financial and/or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Detail-oriented approach and excellent customer-service skills.
* Ability and comfort working with tight deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a professional office environment.
* Familiarity with database management and/or financial management tools.
* Ability to manage confidential information and materials.
* Ability to interact and build relationships with organizational leaders, faculty, visitors, and external organizations.
* Proficiency with MS Office software products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
* Competence in modern office methods and procedures, including filing techniques, telephone etiquette, and professional writing.
What We Prefer
* Bachelor's Degree in business, communication, or related field and 4 years (or more) of financial and/or research administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience interpreting guidelines and applying for funding from a variety of sources but specifically federal, leading the administrative aspects of submitting grant proposals and interpreting University research compliance requirements.
* Experience with research.gov, FastLane, Adobe Acrobat, SciENcv, RASS, and database management.

* This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will allow for the flexibility to work remotely four days per week at a location of employee's choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
