The Rockefeller University seeks a Laboratory Manager (Salary Range: $70K-$80K) to join Casanova Laboratory. The Laboratory Manager will manage day-to-day operations of the Rockefeller University branch of a research laboratory focused on the investigation of human genetics of infectious diseases. The lab is international, with a second branch at the Imagine Institute in Paris, France, and an extensive collaborative network both nationally and globally. We are looking for a bright, driven individual with a strong interest in management, superb organization, exceptional communication skills, leadership qualities, enthusiasm for the scientific work of the lab, and a desire to take on new challenges. Responsibilities include: implementation and enforcement of lab and institutional policies; delegation and enforcement of responsibilities; management of research support staff; ordering lab supplies, negotiating pricing and contracts with vendors, assisting with budget management and cost-saving strategies; managing inventory of laboratory supplies and human biological materials; overseeing organization of lab and organizing regular lab cleanups; oversight of next-generation sequencing submissions and database management; centralization of lab protocols in both branches of the lab (NY and Paris); organization and hosting of weekly lab meetings between the two branches of the lab; oversight of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and management of service agreements; oversight of incoming and outgoing shipments; collaborate with the laboratory manager of the Paris branch on all matters; and serving as main liaison with various institutional offices, including lab safety, plant operations, custodial, purchasing and receiving, among others.
Bachelor's degree in the life sciences and a minimum of five years of related experience or an appropriate combination of education and experience required. Must have knowledge of equipment and materials used for cellular, molecular and genetic biology, strong interpersonal skills including good oral and written communication abilities, and the ability to work independently within a team environment. Must have excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and database programs. The candidate must be a self-motivated individual with excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, innovative thinking, and have the ability to supervise others, a strong sense of ownership for areas of responsibility, and a high work ethic.
