The Rockefeller University seeks a Research Assistant (Salary Range: $46K-$50K) to join 112870 Liu Laboratory. The Liu Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to help work on ongoing projects in the lab, investigating mechanistic questions at the forefront of chromatin biology using quantitative biophysical and biochemical approaches. Specifically, this project seeks to understand how chromatin-binding proteins target specific epigenetic marks (such as DNA methylation and histone modifications) to mediate proper chromatin structure and function, and to uncover the molecular underpinnings of disease mutations that cause cancer and neurological disorders. The Research Assistant will work closely with a graduate student mentor and learn molecular cloning, recombinant protein purification, and fluorescent labeling for biophysical assays. Ultimately, the individual will help create a library of mutant proteins and learn to test them in single-molecule experiments.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, biophysics, or related subjects preferred. Individuals hired will learn specific wet lab and experimental skills relevant to the project, and thus we are mainly seeking individuals who are self-motivated, disciplined, positive, and maintain a high level of time management and organizational skills. Most importantly, we are looking for individuals who work well in a group and support the lab as a team. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain research experience in biochemistry, chemical biology, and/or biophysics within a productive and warm lab environment. We are committed to providing individualized mentorship for each mentee, including tailored skill development and close support for their next career step (e.g., applying to graduate or medical school). Individuals from underrepresented backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.
We offer an excellent benefits package, tuition reimbursement and a competitive salary. The Rockefeller University is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, on a 15-acre campus, along the East River (www.rockefeller.edu/views.php).
The Rockefeller University is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Minorities/Women/Disabled/Veterans.
