We are looking for a research associate to join our growing lab group. The candidate will be a critical member of a team of biologists working to understand the role of the epigenome in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimerâ™s and Parkinsonâ™s disease. The position will require the candidate to learn and perform basic and advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques including high throughput sequencing, single-cell assays, CRISPR-based high-throughput screens, flow cytometry, and iPSC-based cellular differentiation assays.
This position will be research-based with multiple opportunities for publication. The skills and experiences acquired from this position would provide a useful background for future pursuits in medical and/or bioscience graduate school. The ideal candidate would be someone who is motivated to learn cutting-edge sequencing and cellular assays, interested in understanding disease mechanisms, works well in a team setting, and is extremely organized. We strongly encourage individuals from groups underrepresented in science to apply.
In particular, this position will be focused on the generation of large-scale single-cell multi-omic datasets from primary patient brain tissue. The work will initially involve repetitive tissue processing and sequencing library preparation but will provide later opportunities for learning additional techniques and developing independent projects. A minimum commitment of 2 years in the lab is expected.
More information about the laboratory can be found at www.corceslab.com
Duties & Responsibilities:
The candidate will be directly supervised by a senior scientist in the laboratory and will have weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the PI, Dr. Ryan Corces.
The main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
⢠Isolation of nuclei from frozen brain tissue
⢠Single-cell sequencing assays including single-cell RNA-seq and single-cell ATAC-seq
⢠Generating high-throughput sequencing libraries for ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, and ChIP-seq
⢠Must be available for limited work some weekends as required by experiments ⢠Designing, implementing and troubleshooting experiments ⢠Communication of original findings in the form of lab meeting presentations
⢠Preparation of findings for publication ⢠Routine laboratory management such as supply ordering, maintenance, and upkeep (no more than 5% of total effort)
Additional responsibilities may include: ⢠CRISPR-based perturbations of cell lines or brain organoids ⢠Flow cytometric analysis of primary and cultured cells ⢠High-throughput screens including CRISPR-based and massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs) ⢠Cell culture including iPSC differentiation Â
Direct prior experience in these techniques is not required.
Qualifications:
⢠Minimum:
AA/AS and 2+ years of relevant experience
B.S. in a field of Biological Sciences
ln depth knowledge of molecular and cellular biology
Skills/Experience required:
⢠At least 1-2 years of molecular biology laboratory experience
⢠Highly organized with attention to detail and excellent communication skills
⢠Highly motivated and interested in learning new techniques
⢠A record of academic excellence
Experience Preferred:
⢠Familiarity and experience with high-throughput sequencing library generation and sequencing
⢠Prior experience with tissue culture and aseptic technique
