Summary of Duties:
The College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University seeks a post-doctoral researcher to study plant parasitic nematodes. This position is in the Department of Plant Pathology. The position will involve studying races of the Columbia root-knot nematode and plant immune responses to nematode infections at the molecular level, with a focus on novel M. chitwoodi effectors. Position responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Assist in planning and performing nematode bioassays in potatoes, tomatoes and Arabidopsis; 2) Conduct greenhouse and laboratory research on plants infected with root-knot nematodes under different plant growing conditions; 4) Evaluate gene expression analyses and confidently perform other molecular assays with nematodes and plants; 5) Tabulate, collate, summarize, and analyze data and maintain records; and 6) Prepare verbal and written reports of results to supervisor for review and use.
A PhD in plant pathology, plant science, or a related discipline.
Prior experience in molecular laboratory research in plants or nematodes
A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
A proven ability to work independently and to work in teams
A demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision.
A working knowledge of computer programs, including R or related programs for transcriptome and genome analyses.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on 12/31/2023. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
