Position Summary
Responsible for participating with a clinical geneticist in the delivery of genetic services.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Counsel families regarding genetic cause, recurrence, carrier testing, prenatal diagnosis and expectations of genetic syndromes.
Clinical duties to include: chart preparation and review prior to patient office encounter, obtain medical and family histories for new patient visits, obtain interim histories for return patient visits.
Intake new patient referrals and help to facilitate issues with insurance.
Lecture to community organizations, fellows, medical students, and other health care professionals (i.e. physical therapy students, audiologists, medical transcriptionists, etc.).
Lecture to WU undergraduates in Bio 324 course on ad-hoc basis. Write test questions and assist in grading exams.
Provide patient follow-up, serving as a liaison between the patient and the physician to communicate results of laboratory studies and to coordinate genetic testing, procedures, referrals, and testing of other family members.
Coordinate ongoing genetic research studies by consenting patients, analyzing data, and assisting in manuscript preparation.
Coordinate ongoing genetic research studies, clinical trials, and patient registries by consenting patients, patient monitoring, data entry, IRB submission, budget, analyzing data, and assisting in manuscript preparation.
Write educational material for the community.
Preferred Qualifications
ABGC eligible/certified.
Competent in interviewing and counseling techniques to elicit from patients or family the information necessary to reach appropriate conclusion.
Knowledge of genetic and mathematics principles to understand the limitations, interpretations, and significance of specialized laboratory and genetic procedures.
Ability to anticipate areas of difficulty and conflict, to help families and individuals recognize and cope with their emotional and psychological needs, and to recognize situations requiring referral and to transmit pertinent information effectively.
Required Qualifications
Masterâ™s degree from an accredited genetic counseling program.
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Must be board certified in genetic counseling by the either the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or eligible to obtain certification within a year of graduation.

Salary Range
$59,300.00 - $92,000.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
