The Sims Lab in the Department of Systems Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate I to provide computational biology and bioinformatics support to a large-scale immunological profiling project involving perturbation of live human tissues, single-cell genomics, and several other molecular profiling technologies. The effort will involve the development and application of platform technologies for analyzing vaccine responses as part of a team of investigators and researchers at Columbia. The Sims Lab has similar technology development efforts in cancer biology, and there will be opportunities to become involved in these projects as well.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include the maintenance and implementation of computing pipelines for analyzing CITE-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell DNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, and immune repertoire profiling data.
Research duties include managing data storage, data transfer, data sharing, data processing (i.e. demultiplexing and alignment of sequencing data), and downstream data analysis (i.e. unsupervised clustering, differential expression analysis, data visualization, data integration, statistical inference, classification).
Computational analysis will take advantage of a cloud computing infrastructure.
Related responsibilities include keeping detailed written and computer records of computational methods and presenting results to the principal investigator and other team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physics, math, engineering, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field.
Experience with standard bioinformatics pipelines for genomic/transcriptomic analysis.
Experience working with a Linux operating system.
Experience working with and fluency in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Python, R, or similar).
Experience with data management.
Excellent communication skills and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in biology, chemistry, physics, math, engineering, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field.
Experience with cloud computing (e.g. Amazon Web Services).
