The UTHealth School of Public Health invites applicants to fill three multiple rank tenure-track faculty positions at the San Antonio campus. For more information about the UTHealth School of Public Health and the San Antonio campus (https://sph.uth.edu/campuses/san-antonio). The faculty will report to the Campus Dean in San Antonio and to the corresponding Department Chair. Two of the faculty positions will be in one of the School’s four departments (https://sph.uth.edu/dept/) based on expertise. One faculty position will be designated for the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences, with the Center for Occupational Health and Exposome Studies and collaborating in the NIOSH-supported Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (www.SWCOEH.org).
Qualifications Ideal candidates will have a broad understanding of public health, including a (1) doctorate with a focus in psychology, psychiatry, sociology, health economics, or health services research, and occupational or environmental health, including organizational science, industrial hygiene, or toxicology; (2) evidence of collaborative research supporting advances in population or community health, mental health and well-being, health promotion, health services research, or injury and chronic prevention and control, including working populations and their communities and industrial hygiene or exposome sciences addressing occupational or environmental settings; 3) track record of established independent research funding including NIH-funded grants (e.g., K-series or R-series); (4) commitment to excellence in teaching and advising graduate students; and (5) excellence in written and oral communication skills. Multi-disciplinary training, with backgrounds that include computer sciences, statistics, law, engineering, occupational and environmental sciences, and other related disciplines will also be considered.
Responsibilities will include research, teaching, and community service. The applicant will develop and implement research related to population health, community health or clinical health initiatives, and work collaboratively with UTHealth School of Public Health colleagues. The applicant must demonstrate practical, applied expertise in analytic methods appropriate to enhancing research investigating psychosocial, behavioral, structural, or environmental factors associated with health outcomes as well as empirical research involving the design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion interventions, including those related to occupational safety and promotion of illness and injury prevention efforts to encourage worker well-being
We encourage applicants with a broad array of skills and experience related to behavioral health, geriatric health and aging, substance use disorders, and/or military health. We also encourage experience with systems science for population health (e.g., machine learning, agent-based modeling, social network analysis, systems dynamics modeling, etc.), dissemination and implementation science, participatory-based research methods, quantitative methodologies and analytic approaches to population research, innovative modelling techniques or the application of innovative alternative study designs appropriate for complex clinical and/or community-based studies.
The applicant must demonstrate experience as an independent researcher with funded research studies, presentations at national and international conferences, and a record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications. The successful candidate will provide guidance and mentorship to graduate and post-doctoral students. The candidate will participate in classroom instruction and should be prepared to teach graduate level classes. Teaching commitment will be agreed upon with Department Chairs and the Curriculum Coordinator in the Department. We aim to recruit outstanding research scholars, and the compensation package will be competitive. UTHealth School of Public Health, an integral part of UTHealth, is located within the Texas Medical Center (www.texmedctr.tmc.edu) and has 165 faculty and 1300 students at six campuses located strategically throughout Texas.
