The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) invites applications for a clinical academic faculty, non-tenure, open-rank position to lead our GI-GU Radiotherapy Service. The successful candidate will provide clinical services and will be expected to lead investigator-initiated trials and/or conduct translational research. Rank, tenure status, and compensation are contingent upon experience.

The Department serves as the sole academic specialty referral center for Radiation Oncology in the Mid-South and is home to the region's only Radiation Oncology residency training program. We have taken a leadership role in developing a planned NCI-designated Cancer Center at the UTHSC College of Medicine. Our technology, talent, and programmatic direction is purely top tier. This position affords leadership opportunities to expand our clinical network and provider partnerships throughout the full Mid-South region. Newly acquired resources includes matched, system-wide SBRT-enabled Varian TrueBeam linacs, state-of-the-art high-volume brachytherapy (with in-department procedural suites), and planned PET/MRI/Spectral CT imaging capabilities for advanced image-based treatment. We have been charged with creating two new approved and funded academic clinical hubs for our Department; the first will be located on the UTHSC Medical School Campus in partnership with Regional One Medical Center in Downtown Memphis, the second will be located at a planned, dedicated cancer care campus at Baptist Memorial Hospital in East Memphis. It is expected that the successful candidate for this position will work with Department leadership to ensure the success of this expansion.

In combination with our partners at Baptist Memorial Healthcare, we will be the sole academic partners for the largest Radiation Oncology network in the Mid-Southern U.S., covering the entire Memphis region, Eastern Arkansas and the entire Upper Mississippi River Delta. Procurement of advanced MR-guided and stereotactic treatment platforms are a priority. Development of novel on-line adaptive radiosurgery techniques will be a focus of the Department. We have recently received federal funding to build the first large animal preclinical radiotherapy research center in the mid-United States. We are building out in-house informatics and data science expertise, with a focus on cancer disparities, patient-focused treatment quality, and continuous process improvement. We are growing alongside rapidly expanding Surgical, Medical, and Oncology teams led by international-level specialists, and we have access to world class cancer genomics and preclinical small animal radiotherapy research platforms. The successful applicant will have opportunities to oversee educational training and mentorship, lead research, pursue professional development/national level networking, and provide consequential leadership.
