Position description The Department of Pathology at the University of California San Diego (http://pathology.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and seeks Academic Hematopathologists to join the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine.
The successful candidates will be required to share clinical responsibilities for large, integrated bone marrow, lymph node, and flow cytometry diagnostic services and provide cross-coverage of the Clinical Hematology and Hematopathology Laboratories that support the patient care at UC San Diego Health's Jacobs Medical Center (including the region's only NCI-designated cancer center), Hillcrest Medical Center, and the state-of-the-art Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine in La Jolla, as well as our referral/outreach/consultation programs and an expanding clinical integration network. The teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows is also expected.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, MD/PhD in osteopathic medicine or a related field, and have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates must also be Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Pathology in either clinical pathology (CP) or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP), with subspecialty certification in Hematopathology.
Preferred qualifications Candidates with additional subspecialty training and practice experience in molecular genetic pathology/clinical cytogenetics, immunopathology/flow cytometry, or hemostasis/coagulation are preferred. Candidates with a track record in the development and application of molecular, cytogenetic, genomic, and epigenomic diagnostic approaches to benign and malignant hematologic disorders are also preferred.
Candidates with expertise and leadership experience in clinical hematology and hematopathology and/or with evidence of scholarly contributions in clinical, translational, and/or basic research are also preferred. Application Requirements
