The Department of Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks a clinician or clinician-investigator holding MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees for a faculty position with open rank and tenure status. Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidate must be board certified or board eligible in Medical Genetics or other applicable field as determined by Department Chair. 

 
The Department of Genetics is comprised of an interdisciplinary group of faculty focused on performing basic laboratory and clinical research, providing inpatient and outpatient consultation services and offering state-of-the-art genetic diagnostic testing. 

 
The successful applicant will become an integral part of the clinical genetics team, which includes 4 Medical Geneticists, 12 genetic counselors, 2 nurses, 3 metabolic dieticians, and other support staff. We expect that at least 50% of clinical effort will be in providing patient care for patients with inborn errors of metabolism, including involvement in the state newborn screening program. However, the exact distribution of clinical effort can be modified based on the applicant's interests. 

 
We also expect the applicant to be involved in the educational mission of the department. The UAB Medical Genetics Training programs has 7 residents distributed among four training tracks – Categorical Medical Genetics, Pediatrics- Medical Genetics, Internal Medicine- Medical Genetics, and Maternal Fetal Medicine-Medical Genetics. In addition, we provide medical genetics education for the School of Medicine, Graduate program, Genetic Counseling Training program, other health professionals, researchers and the public.
