The Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure track scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, impactful, and well-funded research group in the Department of Preventive Medicine’s Division of Epidemiology at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
We specifically seek population scientists and data scientists prepared to use large cohort, clinical informatics, deep phenotyping, and/or and big data harmonization methods and tools to address one or more of the following areas in research related to cardiovascular epidemiology, aging, and chronic disease research:
Associations between early life phenotypes and adult health outcomes including CVD and cardiometabolic and cognitive outcomes
Trajectory modeling of health states across the life course
Demographic and psychosocial correlates of cardiovascular risk healthy aging
Risk factors for cardiometabolic disease, their treatment, and outcomes (including economic and cost-effectiveness considerations)
Risk assessment strategies for prevention of cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases of aging
Conducting etiologic and prognostic research relevant to cardiovascular disease and healthy aging with integration of omics and imaging data
The contribution of social determinants (e.g, education, income or accumulated wealth, occupational characteristics, and social inequality) to chronic disease across the life course
Intervention studies tailored to younger ages
The Department has long-standing success in complementary areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, nutrition, behavioral medicine and applied public health.
The position is in the Team Scientist track that is designed specifically to value the contributions of outstanding methodologists in advancing the science of high-functioning health science teams. Responsibilities include developing and applying existing and novel methods for use of EHRs and other big data to make insights into health phenotypes across the life course; collaborating with other faculty; leading working groups and writing manuscripts on specific projects; and contributing to the educational mission of the institution by teaching courses or mentoring pre- or post-doctoral students. The full time position is based in the Feinberg School of Medicine on the Chicago lakefront campus.
Qualified candidates will: hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology, informatics, medicine, social sciences, other disciplines of public health, psychology, or a related field with substantial experience in population or clinical research studies; have demonstrated original scholarship; possess excellent written and communication skills; and demonstrate the potential to assist with applications for external research funding.
