The Tufts University School of Dental Medicine's Department of Public Health and Community Service jointly with the Data Intensive Studies Center at Tufts University invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank.
Candidates should possess a dental degree along with expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: health services research; health economics; epidemiology; or bioinformatics, along with experience in analyzing large data sets. The new faculty member will join an active, multidisciplinary research team with the aim to improve the dental healthcare system and oral health patient outcomes. Opportunities exist to contribute to and lead projects involving: (1) development or assessment of analytical methods in the field of Dentistry; (2) the application of economic principles and econometric analysis to explore solutions to population dental problems, such as access to care; (3) efficiency assessment of the dental delivery system, including practice settings and dental insurance; (4) evaluation of technologies and new methods of diagnosing and treating oral health conditions; (5) applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve oral health. The faculty will have the opportunity to conduct large data analyses, write scientific papers, present at scientific meetings, participate or lead the writing of grant proposals, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to graduate-level teaching.
The faculty will join two rapidly growing and collegial departments, the TUSDM Department of Public Health and Community Service and the Tufts Data Intensive Studies Center. The two departments will provide the successful applicant with a supportive environment in which to develop their research, leadership, and other professional skills. Additionally, there are opportunities to work with other faculty from across Tufts University (including, but not limited to the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute).
Essential Qualifications
Completion of a PhD (in epidemiology, economics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a public health-related field), DrPH, or similar doctoral degree
DMD or DDS or foreign equivalent dental degree
Background or experience in substantive or methodologic research relevant to the position
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as portrayed in peer-reviewed scientific publications and other relevant media
Proficiency in epidemiologic or economic analysis, evaluation and synthesis of the literature, and manuscript development for scientific meetings and journals
Experience with statistical analysis, data processing, data management, and programming using software such as Stata, SAS, or R
Experience managing and analyzing big data, including experience using high performance computing resources
