The Department of Biology at the University of Saint Joseph invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor starting August 2023. The growing department serves both undergraduate and graduate biology students with a range of interests including healthcare professions, cellular and molecular biomedical research, and environmental/ecological biology. This position will primarily serve undergraduate students, however opportunities to teach in our fully online biology master's program are also available. A record of research, publication and service is required for the successful granting of tenure.
Primary responsibilities include teaching 24 contact hours each year, as well as active participation in curriculum development, student advisement, and faculty-led student research. The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in teaching at higher education institutions, ideally with foundational courses in biology as well as other courses related to their discipline. A strong preference will be given to candidates who can teach both lecture and laboratory courses such as anatomy and physiology and introductory biology. The ability to teach courses in genetics, bioinformatics, genomics, and/or proteomics is a plus. There will also be an opportunity to teach graduate online courses that complement the candidate's background and the current need for graduate offerings in the department. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their research program and identify how such a program would complement the department and institution. In summary, candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarship exemplified by the balance of teaching students in the laboratory/field and classroom using both traditional and online pedagogies. The Biology Department is committed to innovative teaching practices, equity pedagogy, and active scholarship. Job Requirements:
Required Skills/Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Biology or a related field by time of appointment or ABD by the starting date.
Evidence of experience with personalized instruction of undergraduate students (or other related populations).
Evidence of potential to maintain an active scholarship agenda that leads to publications, competitive external grant submission, and undergraduate student participation.
Evidence of service, including university or community service, or the potential of engaging in service opportunities
Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications

Additional Information:
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $56,000-$59,000 per year. The final offer will be based on the successful candidate's qualification and experience.
