The Meyer lab at Cedars-Sinai Department of Computational Biomedicine is a hybrid wet and dry lab working at the interface of data science and omics. We have NIH funding for a project that will develop a human iPSC-derived glutamatergic neuron model of Alzheimer’s disease in 96-well plates that we can use for high throughput drug screening. The model system will be 2D neurons or 3D brain organoids. This project will also make extensive use of mass spectrometry based multi-omics (proteomics and metabolomics). The successful candidate will work in the Meyer lab’s newly renovated wet lab space in the Pacific Design Center where we have ample tissue culture and cell characterization equipment. For this project we need someone with a biology or neuroscience background, and preferably someone with experience growing, maintaining, and characterizing iPSC-derived neurons. If the successful candidate also has experience with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and/or metabolomics that is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will have experience publishing neuroscience research as first author.
The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic subject area. The Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to specific research or creative program. Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, the Project Scientist title will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications, and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
May serve as PI for certain grants as approved by supervising member of the Professorial Series.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Leads collaborative teams performing computational and bioinformatic analysis of omics data and/or electronic health records data.
May direct the work of graduate students, technicians, and postdoctoral fellows while leading projects and collaborative relationships.
Collaborate with lab members who collect data to ensure that experiments align with computational goals.
Assists in lab experiments.
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.
Will assist in day-to-day laboratory activities.
Appointees on an academic trajectory will be expected to commit a portion of their time to develop an independent range of research.
Doctorate Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required. Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project.
Experience and Skills:
Completion of postdoctoral appointment in the area of specialization, as applicable.
Knowledge of PI's area of research specialization.
Demonstrated technical competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols.
