The Department of Biostatistics of New York University's (NYU) School of Global Public Health (GPH) is seeking applications for multiple tenured faculty positions to begin in Fall 2023. We seek candidates with exceptional scholarship and reputation who can contribute to the academic and research enterprise of NYU. The Department of Biostatistics currently has 8 permanent faculty members, and 3 visiting faculty. Our methodological areas of expertise include survival analysis, high-dimensional data analysis, deep learning, social network analysis, nonparametric statistics, image analysis, data science and machine learning, causal inference, clinical trials, survey methods, longitudinal data analysis and other repeated measure methods, and our substantive areas of collaboration include Alzheimer's disease, cancer genomics, non-communicable disease, infectious disease and the human-planet health interface, health inequities, epidemiology, and tobacco research. We also are home to a new Center on Health Data Science. We offer MPH and MS degrees, and a PhD within the GPH PhD program in Public Health. The Department is interested in recruiting outstanding faculty members who can strengthen and contribute to our programs of research and our course offerings. ● Mentoring individual students, faculty or staff from diverse backgrounds
● Training international students or mentoring faculty from lower middle-income countries
● Working with your national scholarly organization on diversity, inclusion or equity issues, or
Broadening the influence of your work for the public and enhancing underserved communities by
● Participating in K-12 classroom, museums, or other afterschool programming aimed at fostering general education, excitement, and possibility (particularly in underserved populations)
● Providing apprenticeships and internships for pre-college students
● Participating in prison education or other adult education programs that serve under-resourced populations
● Developing educational programming thru the media or social media
● Bringing results of research back to local or international communities
● Participating as a 'public intellectual' on timely issues
● Engaging in community activities around education, social justice, equity, and inclusion.
The candidate must meet the following requirements: (1) doctoral degree or equivalent in Biostatistics or Statistics or related field; (2) outstanding record of scholarly achievement and contribution; (3) experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students and (4) history of externally-funded research projects. The candidate should demonstrate a creative and innovative approach to academic and programmatic development.
