Open Rank Joint Clinical Faculty Search Departments of Biomedical Data Science and Dermatology Stanford University School of Medicine
The Department of Biomedical Data Science (DBDS) and the Department of Dermatology at Stanford University's School of Medicine (SoM) are recruiting a joint clinical faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the University Tenure Line (UTL) and we are particularly interested in candidates who have clinical and research expertise in Biomedical Data Science and Dermatology. The candidate will contribute to the research and educational activities of both Departments. This will be a joint appointment with DBDS as the primary department.
The Department of Biomedical Data Science was founded in the Fall of 2015. We define biomedical data science as the study of biomedical data and information, of how such data and information may be structured, and of how analysis and processing of biomedical data and information will lead to new discoveries and to advances in health and healthcare. We are committed to our historical and ongoing mission to use biomedical data science to improve human health. A cornerstone of this mission is diversity, reflected in embracing a breadth of complementary research interests, research styles, and a diverse and inclusive community. We work towards achieving equity, diversity and inclusion throughout our research and activities, and our professional relationships and partnerships. Successful candidates will embrace our vision and share their experiences, in their cover letter, conducting research or working with diverse and inclusive communities.
The predominant criterion for appointment in the UTL is a major commitment to research and teaching. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. The successful candidate must have an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD with expertise in data science and dermatology as well as experience and interest in biostatistics, statistics, biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, computer science, or biomedical engineering. These areas benefit from broad interactions and collaborations with other basic science and clinical research programs within the SoM - from the expertise within Stanford University and the large and growing patient population from the Stanford Health Care network. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical fellows and participate in relevant clinical and basic science conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop independent research that will contribute to the study of biomedical data, their structure, and their use, across the spectrum of basic to clinical and translational sciences.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will devote 70-80% time to research and the remainder to teaching and other responsibilities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the potential to achieve or has a demonstrated record of achievement in relevant research and publications in leading scientific or medical journals. More information about the Department is available at dbds.stanford.edu. Stanford University value faculty who are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates may optionally include as part of their research or teaching statement a brief discussion of how their work will further these ideals.
