Optum Specialty Pharmacy Residency Program is committed to developing clinical pharmacists to provide advanced patient care services in a specialty pharmacy environment. The program trains residents to:
Provide and manage patient care services in complex, rare specialty disease states
Collaborate with other health care providers
Perform business functions of specialty pharmacy operations
Educate pharmacy students and patients
Teach as adjunct faculty for a school of pharmacy
The residency is based at Optum Specialty Pharmacy National Distribution Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The specialty pharmacy location offers a variety of patient care services to support chronic, complex specialty disease states such as oncology, inflammatory, immunologic, neurologic, infertility, and pulmonary. Chronic disease state management is conducted to manage the patient as a whole. We offer expanded learning opportunities through partner sites, such as Optum Care Primary Care and Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy. The clinical pharmacists work with health care professionals, third party payers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to manage patient medication therapy and help to improve patient outcomes.
Our residency program partners with Midwestern University College of Pharmacy - Glendale to allow residents an opportunity to complete the Clinician Educators Program and serve as a lecturer of an elective course in Specialty Pharmacy.
