Tenure-Track Faculty Positions
Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences
College of Science & Mathematics
The Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences (BBS) at Rowan University is seeking to hire multiple tenure-track faculty to begin their appointment in September 2023. This search is part of a broader, multi-year faculty hiring initiative across the College of Science & Mathematics.
The Department of BBS is specifically interested in candidates who will develop a research program in the broader areas of neuroscience, microbiology, bioinformatics/computational biology, and/or “-omics” (e.g., metabolomics, genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics). However, outstanding candidates with research programs outside of these areas also will be considered.
A Ph.D. or equivalent in biological sciences or related field is required; postdoctoral experience is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record and/or potential to establish and sustain a strong research program. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor levels. The successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the various service endeavors in the Department, College, and University. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the Department, the College of Science & Mathematics, as well as with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, a newly-approved School of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Engineering, and other colleges at the university.
The Department of BBS is a new entity, merged from the former Departments of Biological Sciences and Molecular/Cellular Biosciences. We have existing strengths in molecular biology, ecology, organismal biology, and bioinformatics. Our department is home to approximately 1,100 undergraduate students majoring in biological sciences, molecular & cellular biology, bioinformatics, and translational biomedical sciences. The department offers pathways to several combined advanced degrees (B.S./M.S., B.S./M.D., B.S./D.O.). We administer a M.S. degree in bioinformatics and have additional programs (including a Ph.D.) in development.
Complete applications will include:
Cover letter
Current detailed CV
Statement of research interests, including applicant’s future research goals
Statement of teaching philosophy that includes the candidate’s commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring practices
Graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable for initial review)
Names and contact information for at least three references; confidential letters will be requested if an application is moved forward
All positions are contingent upon budget appropriations. Questions regarding the position should be directed to Dr. Stephen Bentivenga, Head of Biological & Biomedical Sciences (bentivenga@rowan.edu).
