We are seeking a Laboratory Genetic Counselor to join the Molecular and Cytogenetics Diagnostics Laboratories. In this key role, you will provide genetic consultation to physicians requesting genetic testing and provide direct counseling and risk assessment services to physicians and fellows/residents of clinical teams from UCLA Health. In some instances, you may work in a multi-disciplinary manner with other UCLA Health providers. You will also assist with developing laboratory genetic testing processes, procedures, and counseling services.
The candidate will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and must be able to work with physicians, fellows/residents of clinical teams and molecular diagnostics laboratory staff who have diverse cultural backgrounds, life experience, education levels, lifestyles, and socioeconomic statuses. Sensitivity and the ability to work with physicians, fellows/residents and laboratory staff confidentially and positively are essential.
•Must be certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) •Must have a master’s degree in genetic counseling from an accredited genetic counseling program •Knowledge of health care systems, health insurance authorization processes, health information systems, and community resources •Solid understanding of molecular biology of laboratory genetics and genomics •Ability to collaborate with teams of physicians, fellows/residents, laboratory scientists and directors required •Excellent communication skills •Strong writing skills
