The Tse laboratory seeks to understand viral pathogenesis and transmission (zoonotic, enzootic and pandemic) at the molecular level to ultimately develop new guidelines, vaccines, and antivirals for public health measures. On the other hand, we also focus on engineering pathogenic viruses into harmless nanoparticles for medical use in gene therapy and vaccine development. In the Tse lab, we study both Biosafety level 2 and 3 (BSL-2/3) pathogens such as flaviviruses and coronaviruses.Â
We are looking for an advanced level Research Assistant position in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. The lab is in the state-of-the-art Edward A. Doisy Research Center. Positions are available immediately. Successful candidates are expected to have a bachelors degree or greater in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related fields. High motivation, willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions and work as a team is a must. Previous research experience is highly preferred.
Successful candidate must have relevant research experience and are willing to train and teach junior lab members. Willingness to perform experiments (tissue culture and animal) in Biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) environment is required. Prior BSL-3 experience is preferable but not required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Routine biological techniques for the position:
1. Design and execute molecular cloning
2. Develop mammalian tissue culture and stable cell line establishment
3. Fluorescence, confocal and light microscopy
4. Molecular biology and biochemistry, western blot and immuno-staining
6. Antibody neutralization and antiviral assay, assay development
7. Small animal handling, infection and experiments
8. Maintenance of common lab supplies including buffers and competent cells
9. Order and replenish lab reagents and maintenance of lab equipment
