The Adult Genetics service with the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate to provide genetic counseling services to patients and their families at the Baylor Medicine Genetics Clinic and at Smith Clinic within the Harris Health System, a healthcare system that provides quality, affordable healthcare for residents of Harris County, Texas. Join a growing team of physicians and genetic counselors who are passionate about providing excellent comprehensive care to patients and families who are referred to the genetics service. Patients are seen in these clinics for general adult medical genetics and cancer-related indications.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide genetic counseling services primarily to patients being evaluated for general adult and cancer-related indications. • Review medical records, obtain detailed medical and family histories, and construct pedigrees. • Provide education and counseling to patients about potential genetic etiologies, inheritance patterns, recurrence risks, and implications of genetic testing. • Develop genetic testing plan and coordinate testing. • Interpret genetic test results and disclose to patient. • Provide patients with appropriate screening and management recommendations. • Facilitate testing for at-risk family members (cascade screening). • Draft and send letters to patients and families to summarize the genetic counseling session and provide information about the genetic diagnosis. • Answer patient calls and assess need for services. • In some cases, refer clients to appropriate agencies and physicians.
Master's in Genetic Counseling and must be either certified or eligible for certification
