The Research Administration Manager I (RAM) will be responsible for mentoring or managing research administration staff, overseeing faculty portfolios (either directly or in support of other research administrators in the program), and various daily operations related to research administration and general administrative support for the Computational Biology Program. This position will work in conjunction with the Director of Programs & Strategy in developing operational goals, determining courses of action to accomplish goals and in managing staff. The RAM will collaborate with program faculty, advise faculty and staff on relevant matters, develop effective solutions to administrative issues and provide input to broader program and division planning as needed.
Ideally, this is a full-time position but we are open to candidates interested in an 80% to 100% (32-40 hours per week) position, for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
May perform some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Programs & Strategy with the development, implementation and administration of Center and Program policies and procedures
- Serve as a liaison with Center staff and outside individuals/organizations, answering questions and resolving problems with regard to the administration of the Computational Biology Program.
- Develop short- and long-term goals, procure necessary resources and determine courses of action to accomplish goals for the research administration function
- Mentor and/or manage research administration staff to include hiring, performance evaluation, professional development, handling disciplinary action, layoff and termination issues
- Oversee grant application activities and award funding compliance, resolving all escalated issues to ensure successful submissions
- Manage financial forecasting and budgets for the program, including development of related tools, requesting and tracking sponsored and non-sponsored funding, managing all sub awards/contracts and
- related agreements, approving departmental purchases and consulting with faculty on funding opportunities
- Stay up-to-date of changes and updates to policies/procedures across various departments as they pertain to research administration operations (HR, OSR, IRO, NIH, DOD, etc.)
- Oversee submissions to IRO and other committees, resolving all escalated issues to ensure successful submissions
- Participate in and/or lead various administrative committees
- Participate in divisional or institutional improvement projects and problem resolution related to research administration
- Assist the Director of Programs & Strategy, Principal Investigators and Program staff with special projects as needed
- Perform other responsibilities as required
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in business, public administration or related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ of progressive experience in research administration and federal grant and contraction administration (NIIH, DOD, NSF, etc.)
- Strong budgetary, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage complex activities in a research setting and to work effectively with a variety of people
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe
- Ability to source data from systems and generate customized reports
- Ability to navigate complex internal systems and departments
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory or mentoring experience
- Proficiency with SharePoint (or other data management/reporting tools) and experience developing customized reports to assist with program oversight
- Experience with award distribution (developing and releasing funding opportunities, application review and award dissemination)
