The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is seeking a Research Computer Specialist with experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI), computational biology and/or bioinformatics to support our cancer research program. This position will be centered on determining needs for developing new strategies and approaches for harnessing AI based applications for delivery in clinical and translational workflows. A deep understanding of clinical or business workflows with the impact that AI and informatics has in these areas, is necessary to aid in designing and facilitation of new AI based translational informatic approaches.

The successful candidate should have the ability to run and develop new and novel algorithms. Excellent communication skills are needed to collaborate with our large informatics team and diverse group of customers for changes in management plans. Participation in and management of the MCTP Image Analysis Lab will also be required. Providing a previous track record of academic inclinations, publication interest, and collaborative ventures is necessary to be considered for this position. A candidate can expect to work with faculty members to provide high-level consultation for and expertise with computer applications to scientific research problems. The ideal candidate for this position will lead in revolutionizing medicine in modern healthcare to support the advances in science and translational discoveries that our program strives for.  

Role and Expectations-

• Manage Image analysis lab at MCTP and collaborate with colleagues from diverse disciplines at MCTP
• Advise MCTP on developing strategy and new approaches for harnessing AI based applications for delivery in clinical/translational workflows
• Ability to run and develop new and novel algorithms
• Previous track record proving academic inclinations, publication interest and collaborative ventures
• Design new AI based translational informatics approaches, adapting them to a specific problem
• Deep understanding of clinical or business workflows and informatics/AI impact on them.
• Mastery in architecting newly derived knowledge into the clinical workflow.
• Communicates required change management needs to informatics staff and customers to enable create of change management plan

Minimum Requirement-

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
• 2-3 years computer/research experience.
• Experience in a relevant field such as bioinformatics, clinical informatics, biomedical engineering, computer science, health science, or another analytical/quantitative field

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferable advanced degree with expertise in Digital Imaging, Image Analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based applications
• Previous exposure to one or more of Radiology, Metabolomics, Immunology, Cell Biology or others in context of translational medicine and AI
• Experience with Whole Slide Imaging (WSI)
