The Division of Genetic Medicine is established to host both research and clinical research programs focused on the genetic basis of health and disease. The division provides an academic environment enabling researchers to explore new relationships between disease susceptibility and human genetics.

Key Functions and Expected Performances
Under moderate supervision, assistant to the ongoing research projects, conduct and evaluate experiments and assays.
Perform the basic laboratory techniques including, but not limited:
Skills for lab equipment operation: centrifuges, chemical weighing scales and balance, pH meter, PCR machine, shakers, heat blocks, water bath, DNA-free pre-PCR workstation.
Other equipment in the core or other labs: Nanodrop, DNA gel imager, StemVision, etc.
Basic solutions and media preparation, including stock and working solutions, cell culturing media, and experimental reagents.
Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions.
Cell culturing including cell line maintenance and primary cell culture. Cell freezing and thawing. Cell counting and passing. Performing the downstream applications such as CD34 cells isolation and transfection.
Perform the lab routine tasks independently by following the experimental protocols:
---PBMC processing for CHIVE patients blood samples, cells aliquots and freezing. PBMC cell samples database maintenance, and data entries in the RedCap database instrument.
PBMC downstream applications.
---DNA extraction and purification by using kits, and DNA quantity by nanodrop device in the core room.
---CD34 stem cell isolation and culturing from PBMC, and from patients' blood and bone marrow samples.
---Cell culturing and maintenance, cell transfection/transduction by electroporation for CRISPR products sgRNA and Cas9 nuclease. gDNA extraction.
--- PCR amplification and DNA gel electrophoresis for DNA seq. validation.
Recognize problems and suggest solutions. A good trouble shooting capability.
The self-motivated RA will learn and test new and wide varieties of techniques.
Be a team player with a good interpersonal skill.
Record the experimental procedures into the lab notebook and summarize test results appropriately. Prepare preliminary research progress reports.

Equipment and facilities Maintenance:
In the tissue culture (TC) room: culture hood, cell incubator, liquid nitrogen tank, auto cell counter. Supplies shelves/drawers. Waste flasks and Biohazard bags/containers.
4C refrigerator, -20C freezers, and -80C freezer. Samples/reagents organizing and defrosting.
Autoclave glassware and sterile reagents. Dispose biohazard waste appropriately.
