A Postdoctoral Scientist position is available in Dr. Nirmala Mavila's Lab (https://bio.cedars-sinai.org/mavilan/index.html ) at the Karsh Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
The Mavila lab is interested in investigating the molecular mechanism of liver fibrosis, liver cancer, hepatic regeneration and the roles of cellular microenvironment in these events using various transgenic mouse models, cell culture models and an array of modern cutting-edge technologies such as liver organoids, Single-cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomic and proteomic analysis.
We are looking for a passionate and ambitious Postdoctoral Scientist who can work independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other scientists in the lab/Division. Successful candidates will contribute towards the completion of ongoing research projects and may develop their own line(s) of research within the scientific interests of the lab. In this role, you will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures related to liver fibrosis, liver cancer, regenerative biology and liver stem/progenitor cells. The incumbent will be responsible for conceptual and technical contribution to drive exciting projects to move forward.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author
Designs and performs experiments
Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator
May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period
Operates and maintains equipment and instruments
Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducting research involving transgenic mouse models
Responsible for conducting basic and complex experiments using techniques such as mammalian cell culture, transfection, bacterial transformation, Western blotting, qPCR, Immunoprecipitation, Immunohistochemistry, Confocal microscopy and Gene cloning
Perform primary cell isolation from murine tissues and culture
Doctorate degree (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization, required
Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or an area related to the field of research is preferred
1 year of relevant experience, preferred
Acquired thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment
Ph.D. or equivalent Degree within last four years with a strong interest in liver fibrosis/liver cancer/ regenerative biology/liver stem cell biology, preferred
Basic training and skills in bioinformatic analyses of large-scale data would be an added advantage
