The Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center is seeking a Scientific Computing (SciComp) Technical Account Manager (TAM) to act as a liaison between Shared Resources (SR) and Center Information Technology (CIT). The primary aim of this role is to advocate for SR by identifying high value initiatives and ensuring timely resolution of technical issues. A successful candidate will develop strong relationships with leadership to capture, prioritize, and promote new technology solutions and process optimizations. To ensure timely resolution of issues, the candidate will serve as a single point of contact for all SR technical requests. An ideal candidate must possess strong personal, analytical, and technical skills to extract, prioritize and delegate requests. They should embrace ambiguity, ramp up quickly on complex issues without oversight, and be skilled at communicating issues simply and convincingly to a wide range of audiences. The SciComp TAM reports to the Manager/Director of Scientific Computing.
Responsibilities
The Scicomp TAM will focus on communicating the needs of multiple SR departments, including Genomics & Bioinformatics, Cellular Imaging, Proteomics, Flow Cytometry, CryoEM, and Data Core. This position will routinely meet with SR leadership to identify and prioritize initiatives and act as a single point of contact for technical issues. An ideal candidate will craft, triage, and execute strategies to drive effective collaborations between CIT and SR and will provide advice on architecture, support, and launch planning.
Service Support (70%): The SciComp TAM is responsible for directly supporting SR technical and operational needs. The position serves as a leader and point of contact for impacting issues and is expected to deliver timely, accurate, and professional technical support and information to all key stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strategic Development (15%): The SciComp TAM will partner with SR to ascertain their information technology priorities to set a long-term strategy for service delivery that aligns with their business objectives
Relationship Development (15%): The SciComp TAM creates strategic relationships with key stakeholders within Fred Hutch organizations, including the IT Directors and department leaders, as well as other technology professionals
- Participate in adoption of new hardware and software technologies (NGS, Storage, Etc.)
- Ensure availability and uptime of SR systems and processes
- Coordination and communication of technology changes/events and impact to Shared Resources
- Support upgrades and replacements of existing technologies
- Support capacity planning
- Help create and monitor service level agreements
- Assist in defining data retention and use policies
- Participate in disaster recovery process development and drills
- Develop trusting relationships with customers, understanding business needs and technical challenges
- Provide detailed reviews of service disruptions, metrics, detailed pre-launch planning
- Uplift capabilities by running workshops, brown bag sessions, etc.
- Triage and correct failures of automated data processing systems due to permission problems, configuration errors, transient cluster, networking outages, or storage issues.
- Assist users in sharing data with internal or external collaborators
- Facilitate ingestion of public and private data assets
- Ensure environments remain operationally healthy whilst reducing cost and complexity
- Perform other responsibilities as required
- May require on-call support and after-hours/weekend work
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience
- Ability to work as part of a team and/or individually, with proven track record of success
- Very strong communication skills, be detail oriented, and self-motivated
- Advanced familiarity with software productivity packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, Cloud Technologies, High Performance Computing, Networking and Software Development
- Internal and/or external customer-facing experience in a technical role
- Experience handling issues, incidents, problems, and service availability
- Solid presentation skills with a high degree of comfort influencing technology strategy with executives through to developers
- Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in technology or science field of study
- Experience in a similar role as a Technical Account Manager, Operations Manager or Service Delivery Role
- Professional experience with AWS and/or other cloud offerings
- Experience in Informational Technology and/or Genomic operations
- Basic scripting in Python, Bash or similar
