Carnegie Mellon University's Pre-College program is a six-week summer program for high school students to explore college life both inside and outside of the classroom. The program enrolls approximately 750 residential students and 50 commuter students. The Pre-College fields of study include Architecture, Art, AI4ALL, Computational Biology, Computer Science Scholars (CSS), Design, Drama, Music, National High School Game Academy, Summer Academy for Mathematics and Science (SAMS), Summer Session (credit-bearing courses), and Writing & Culture.

Our Student Affairs division is searching for an enthusiastic Assistant Director for Pre-College Student Affairs. You will contribute to the program by coordinating logistics and operations related to the program's many meta-curricular activities and developing a robust outside-of-the-classroom experience for students.

The Assistant Director will also work as part of the Pre-College operations team and will be assisting with year-round processes of recruiting, admitting, and enrolling Pre-College students.

Core responsibilities will include:

• Engage in operational planning activities such as coordinating space, scheduling meetings, purchasing materials and renting equipment, etc. Develop and manage relationships with partner departments, develop and present orientation program as well as opening and move-out weekend schedules, and plan and implement large events and activities to develop a robust outside-of-the-classroom experience for Pre-College students.

• Coordinate the design, development, and implementation of new student programs. Coordinate administrative activities such as updating and maintaining the Pre-College Student Affairs website, reviewing and updating the learning content and enrollment materials in the Pre-College enrollment portal, and reviewing and maintaining student enrollment records and related operating procedures.

• Recruit, hire, supervise, train, develop, and evaluate approximately 65 undergraduate residential staff members. Work with campus partners to facilitate the administrative aspects of the hiring process. Develop and implement a robust training program for Pre-College residential staff.

• Review and analyze program data as well as peer benchmark data.

• Build and manage Pre-College Student Affairs budget.

• Manage student emergency response, coordination of care, and work in conjunction with the Director for complex student issues necessitating family communication. Ensure safety and security of Pre-College students by communicating, enforcing, and reviewing Pre-College policies and procedures pursuant to industry standards and external requirements.

• Work as part of the Pre-College operations team and assist with year-round processes of recruiting, admitting, and enrolling Pre-College students.

• Give to departmental and division-wide Student Affairs initiatives as assigned.

• Other duties as assigned.

You should be able to travel within the Pittsburgh area during the summer for any programmatic or emergency response needs. Some domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, education or a related field required

• Minimum of 1-3 years' experience working with residential and/or high school programs

• Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
