The Nutrigenomics and Novel therapies Laboratory, directed by Dr. Teepu Siddique Lab is a neuroscience/neurogenomics lab with the aim of identifying genetic defects in neurological disease, the epigenomic topography of the epigenome in the nucleus and its effect on gene expression in human tissue and animal models of disease as an approach in understanding the mechanism of disease. To test hypotheses, animal and cell models are engineered to study the pathology and test rational treatments. Human pathology is used to understand common routes of disease expression. This knowledge is used to design rational therapies including small molecules, gene editing, gene delivery in specifically engineered animal models including those with circadian disturbances and where pathology is visible through a skull window in the living animal under confocal microscopy.
A postdoctoral researcher is needed for a neuroscience lab at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dept of Neurology.
Additional details about the Siddique Lab:
Lab type: Cell and molecular biology, imaging, neurogenetics, biochemistry, histochemistry
Research lab focus areas Neurodegenerative disorders, genetics of neuromuscular disorders, Gene therapy
Specific research populations: Humans and small animals
Fellows are mentored to become independent investigators, assist in writing grant proposals, write reviews and papers, and will be included on NIH and other federal grants and exposed to all relevant techniques needed for their project, both inside and if needed at another collaborating lab. Fellows are encouraged to compete for NIH type training or other foundation type grants
Supervision summer students.
Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or genetics or cell and molecular biology or bioinformatics.
The ideal candidate is an intelligent and hard-working person who would be expected to fill in the gaps with supervision and time.
A bioinformatics background will be an added plus.
Interested Candidates should e-mail a single PDF with a cover letter briefly describing their research interests and qualifications, a curriculum vitae, as well as the names and contact information for three references to Teepu Siddique, MD at firstname.lastname@example.org
