ABOUT MGH INSTITUTE:MGH Institute of Health Professions is a graduate school in Boston that provides entry-level and post-professional programs in Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Genetic Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. POSITION SUMMARY:Working under the direction of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid has primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of financial aid activities and services for students, providing exceptional customer service, processing and/or adjusting financial aid, scholarship awarding, Title IV awarding, and processing alternative loans. The Assistant Director creates and monitors communications, and collaborates with admissions, student accounts, and the web editor to ensure the currency of virtual and printed information relating to student eligibility, available aid programs, and application procedures. The Assistant Director will present financial aid information and related topics at Institute events such as admissions information sessions, new student open houses, and orientation events. As directed, Assistant Director produces financial aid reports for the Associate Director, Director, and Dean of OES. The Assistant Director provides a leadership role and serves as back-up for key responsibilities of the Associate Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- (50%) Respond to financial aid inquiries via email, phone and meetings; provide exceptional customer service to inform prospective students, applicants, and enrolled students about the financial aid application process and their current status, clarifying/interpreting relevant federal aid policies and procedures that affect borrowing and loan refunds.
- (30%) Perform file review, verification, and awarding. Download from Department of Education SAIG mailbox, process alternative loan applications, renew scholarships, review applications for short-term loans, exercise sound professional judgement for special circumstance requests.
- (5%) Create, edit, and ensure timely, consistent communications of financial aid information (virtual and print).
- (5%) Work with the Associate Director and Director to create statistical reports related to institutional and federal loan reporting; enrollment trends and scholarship management data
- (5%) Remain current regarding Institute and federal financial aid policies
- (3%) Present financial aid information at IHP events
- (2%) Perform other related duties within OES in support of Financial Aid, admission, student services and registration as necessary
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in a related Administrative, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences Discipline. Minimum 2 years experience in customer service and high attention to detail. Excellent organizational, time management, verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of federal financial aid procedures and regulations, understanding of current issues in financial aid, as well as proficient use of Datatel's Colleague Financial Aid Module and Federal Direct systems preferred.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:a) Administrative Skills- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; customer-service oriented. Must also have the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks in an environment that has constant interruptions. Must be detail oriented.
b) Technical Skills- Skilled in using Ellucian's Datatel System, including the ability to create reports by utilizing knowledge of system mapping and fields. Must also be skilled in using related software applications including MS Word and Excel. Must be able to read and comprehend federal regulations. Basic math skills required.

TRAINING/TIME REQUIRED TO LEARN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Must attend industry-specific workshops and conferences to stay abreast of the latest federal guidelines governing financial aid and trends in higher education. Also reads industry information, particularly technical reference guides, as they are published.
