Job Summary:

The SPAN Lab at MGB is looking for a highly motivated individual to assist with two of our research projects. This individual will be responsible for participant recruitment, running data collection sessions, carrying out supervised therapy sessions, processing and coding data, and creating and maintaining project databases. These projects concern assessment of speech perception and production in low- and minimally verbal children with autism and their relationship to spoken language development in these individuals. The position thus requires a great deal of sensitivity and experience working with families who have children on the autism spectrum. The individual will work closely with both the lab director and the lab manager on these tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• 50% Assists with data collection with minimally verbal children and their families, including providing manualized speech therapy in a play-based context to minimally verbal children with autism.
• 20% Prepares for study visits including organizing paperwork, setting up equipment, and preparing study materials.
• 20% Assists with subject recruitment and scheduling.
• 10% Processes collected data (will be trained on the software used) and enters research data in into study database.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a field such as psychology, early education, or communication sciences and disorders is required.
• Experience working with children with developmental disorders is required.
• Post-baccalaureate training in applied behavioral analysis, speech pathology, special education, or occupational therapy is preferred. Special preference will be given to candidates with master's-level training in these or related fields.
• Experience working with children or adults with autism, or nonverbal individuals, is ideal.
• Experience working in a research lab and/or interacting with research participants is helpful as well.
• Clinical fellows in speech pathology are welcome. The Director is credentialed to serve as a CF supervisor.

Skills, Abilities, Competencies:

• MS Office proficiency.
• Ability to learn how to use new software for speech, facial movement, and statistical analysis.
• Effective interpersonal and communications skills with scientists, non-scientists, children, and families.
• Must maintain CITI human research certification.
• An ability to work independently as well as a team member to schedule, plan, and complete subject visits.
• Ability to independently problem-solve and troubleshoot, as well as to enlist other lab members to help when appropriate.
