Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), located in the city of New York, is a part of high ranked premier Ivy League school in the country. The Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (C2B2) manages an impressive High Performance Computing and Big Data Storage facility devoted to cutting-edge research in molecular and systems biology labs, including the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Institute for Cancer Genetics and the JP Sulzberger Columbia Genome Center.
C2B2 is searching for a Research Computing Specialist to manage high-end RedHat Linux and Windows Servers, software environment for highly skilled researchers (PhD students and above). The position requires significant technical and customer service skills involving personal interaction, multi-tasking, and resource management. Our Data Center services run in a 24x7 mode, occasionally attending emergencies during off-hours is a part of the job.
Manage research-computing servers (Windows, RedHat Linux, HPC Clusters, MySQL Database).
Manage Big Data in enterprise storage systems, access control, quotas, and backups.
Manage software environment for scientific applications like MATLAB, Python, R, CUDA.
Manage Virtualization and Integration of campus and Cloud systems.
Manage user accounts in enterprise wide Microsoft Active Directory.
Manage computing resources, accounting and billing for services rendered.
Enforce policies for cyber security compliance and systems stability.
Represent the Center in Columbia University IT Managers Group.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Bachelor???s degree in technology or information management systems, or equivalent in education and experience.
Four years of related experience supporting large groups of users.
Expert level skills in at least one scripting language: Bash, Python, PHP, PowerShell.
Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and Virtualization.
Web application development.
Excellent communication skills and proven customer service.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. equipment.
Master???s degree in computer technology or related field.
Certifications in one or more technologies like Active Directory, RedHat Linux, Networking, Security, Virtualization, and Cloud.
Certification in project management.
