Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks a well-rounded individual with a passion for teaching and experimentation in the areas of chemical and environmental engineering. In this exciting and unique position, you will use your knowledge, skills and ideas to assist in the development and deployment of lab activities for Harvard courses and supervise student design engineering projects. Reporting to the Director for Active Learning, Biological and Environmental Engineering, you will be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team that supports SEAS educational mission. Works with SEAS faculty and staff to develop and support course laboratory content across multiple disciplines, including environmental and chemical engineering.
Provides technical support for engineering courses requiring use of the wet labs. Prepares required materials for course labs as needed.
Assist teaching staff in the implementation of lab activities for courses.
Acts as the designated Lab Safety Officer and addresses student safety needs (training and compliance) for the wet/chemical lab spaces. Arranges mandatory lab safety trainings and orientations, enforces safe lab practices.
Help support multidisciplinary student projects.
Support summer and extracurricular outreach programs.
Perform routine maintenance of equipment in the environmental engineering teaching laboratory (includes coordinating orders and communication with vendors).
Lead lab safety trainings and orientations for students and other users of the wet lab spaces.
Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab, general lab inventory, hazardous waste management, and online protocol documentation.

Bachelor's or master's degree in one of the following (or closely related) fields: Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences.
5+ years of related experience with at least 3 years of wet lab experience.
Experience with basic chemical lab techniques.
Experience operating analytical chemistry instrumentation, including IC, GC, HPLC, and ICP-OES.
Master's or Ph.D. in one of the fields listed above is preferred.
Must have a passion for helping others and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
Teaching experience as a teaching fellow or instructor for course(s) in Environmental Engineering is highly desired.
This is a high-energy and interdisciplinary position, working cross-functionally with computational, biological, electrical, and mechanical engineers of the team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Knowledge of scanning electron microscopy, UV/VIS spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence atomic absorption spectrometry, and/or Raman spectrometry is a plus.
Broad interdisciplinary knowledge and/or experience is a plus. In particular, knowledge across biological sciences, fluid mechanics/thermodynamics/heat transfer, and/or microfluidics will be most relevant.
