SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: The Troutman Lab investigates the functions of tissue-residing myeloid cells, including macrophages, in regulating health and disease. We couple cellular and molecular immunology approaches to quantitative analyses of dynamic epigenetic factors ultimately controlling gene expression. With these approaches, we discover novel intercellular and intracellular mechanisms controlling tissue myeloid cell behaviors during health and disease.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

???Perform experiments and record data
Follow research protocol. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments. Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques. Assists in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.

???Lab Administration
Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain cell cultures. Operate standard laboratory equipment. Use and maintains laboratory equipment appropriately. Responds to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment. Assists in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.. Provides appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).

Demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills. Stay abreast of changes in key systems. Serve as a resource to the department in specific area(s).

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required for RAII:

??? High school diploma or equivalent

??? 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. or equivalent combination of education and experience

???May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent

Required for RAIII:

??? Bachelor's degree in a related field

??? 1 year of work experience in a related job discipline OR Master's degree in a related field

Required for RAIV:

??? Bachelor's degree in a related field

??? 3 years of experience in related job discipline OR Master's degree and 2 years experience

Unique Skills:

Candidates with previous experience with flow cytometry/cell sorting, cell culture, molecular biology, cloning, mouse model and human sample work are preferred.
