Assistant Director for Clinical Genetics & Genomics Laboratory

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) is recruiting an Assistant Director in the Clinical Genetics and Genomics Laboratory.

Required qualifications include a PhD or MD/DO degree, as well as dual ABMGG board certification or active candidate status in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.

Qualified candidates must have competency in chromosome analysis, FISH, and microarray interpretation in both constitutional and oncology settings.  Experience with common molecular genetic assays, and next generation sequence analysis, including interpretation of sequence and copy number variants, is preferred. Academic appointments are available through the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine.

The individual selected for this position will

• work closely with a growing team in the interpretation and reporting of genomic testing
• serve as a consultant to ordering physicians and clients
• participate in the education of students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff
• support Children’s Mercy’s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of children by providing comprehensive, family-centered health care and commitment to research, academic and service excellence

Our translational work is enabled by close collaboration with The Genomic Medicine Center (GMC) to provide the highest quality, cutting-edge genomic testing. The GMC consists of board-certified scientists in clinical molecular and cytogenetics, physicians, researchers, genetic counselors, bioinformaticians, software engineers and clinical laboratory scientists experienced in genomic analysis. Equipment includes an Illumina NovaSeq, 6 PacBio Sequel instruments, NextSeq2000, and a 10x Chromium system. In addition, our ABMGG accredited fellowship program in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics currently has two fellows in training.
