The Henry Ford Health Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a PhD, MD, or an MD/PhD with subspecialty expertise in cytogenetics and molecular genetics to join the staff of our Division of Molecular Pathology and Genomic Medicine. This position will work effectively with the directors of Cytogenomics and Molecular Pathology laboratories, both under the direction of the Vice-chair of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology. The successful candidate must have experience in a complex hospital Cytogenetics laboratory with a high focus on service to clinical providers and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities. The position requires Board Certification (or eligibility) in Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG).

Pathology is an integrated system laboratory overseeing testing at all hospitals and clinic delivery sites, with a large outreach program. It is further recognized as the world’s leading Lean management laboratory enterprise and the only ISO 15189 accredited laboratory in Michigan. The Department is an academic practice, composed of 56 senior staff pathologists and clinical scientists, with 8 board-certified MDs in molecular pathology and 4 PhDs in LGG. Pathology employs 800 technical staff, handling over 13 million clinical laboratory tests, 200,000 surgical pathology specimens and over 30,000 molecular and cytogenomic tests in the core laboratories of the system.

Henry Ford is one of the region’s major academic medical centers, receiving between $90-$100 million in annual research funding and remaining Michigan’s fourth largest NIH-funded institution. Also, an active participant in medical education and training, the health system has trained nearly 40% of physicians currently practicing in the state and provides education and training for other health professionals including nurses, pharmacists, radiology and respiratory technicians.
