The Senior Staff Associate will provide leadership in implementing lab policies and practice, manage lab resource allocation, and provide guidance to junior team members. The position will be responsible for the organizational and administrative support of multiple research projects with a focus on cartilage biology and regenerative medicine. The scope of work will include animal studies of skeletal tissue development, adult stem cells, cartilage regeneration, arthritis disease modeling, drug testing, and bioinformatics. Mouse husbandry responsibilities will include maintaining over 20 genetic mouse lines. We look for a highly motivated individual with experience in several of the above areas of research to join the dynamic and highly interdisciplinary team of investigators, including basic scientists and clinicians. In serving as Lab Manager, the specific responsibilities will include: maintenance of research resources including specialized equipment and instrumentation; ordering of research supplies and components; inventory and maintenance of key components for research including cell culture and specialized animal reagents; scheduling and utilization of key resources (analytical instruments and equipment); maintenance of animal database; and maintenance of the web site. The position will also work with post-docs and surgeons and be responsible for orchestrating and assisting/performing articular joint surgery in rats, rabbits and pigs.
Bachelor's degree in Biology and 6 years' relevant experience. Candidate must have expertise in mouse husbandry and small/large animal surgery and will be responsible for maintaining mouse genetic lines and performing procedures and surgeries in mice, rats, rabbits and pigs. Experience in mouse procedures required, such as oral gavage and cre-lox recombination, murine cesarean surgery and surrogacy, intra-articular injections, and transplantation surgery in nude mice. Candidates should be enthusiastic and exceptionally motivated; possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Should also possess the ability to perform meticulous record keeping; excellent communication and writing skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
