The Mount Holyoke College Computer Science Department seeks a Visiting Lecturer to teach and inspire a vibrant community of students. This two-year appointment, to begin Fall 2022, carries a teaching load of 5 courses per year, which may be divided between courses and lab sections. We are searching broadly for candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching computer science and a passion for engaging a diverse population of undergraduate students. Visiting faculty are eligible for all College research support including funding to attend professional meetings, for professional development, and for students to participate in faculty research.

Computer science is one of the top majors at Mount Holyoke. The department currently has 9 faculty and 5 staff, including lab instructors and a sysadmin, and courses are matched to instructors based on individual interests and expertise. Collaborations with other departments are ongoing and encouraged, including: Entrepreneurship, Organizations & Society, Mathematics & Statistics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Studio Art. Faculty have the opportunity to teach core courses across the computer science curriculum, courses for the growing interdisciplinary Data Science major, courses making use of an 8,000 sqft makerspace, as well as to develop new courses. Typical class sizes range from 15 - 30 students, and introductory courses are supported by a lab instructor and an established peer mentorship program.

Candidates should have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Completion of an advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field (e.g., Cognitive Science, Computational Social Science, Computational Biology, Informatics, or STEM Education) is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire; strong candidates with a Master’s degree will be considered. Candidates will be required to submit a CV, cover letter, and three statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) approach to mentoring a diverse student body. Contact information for three references should be included as part of your application.
