The UW Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetic Medicine, in collaboration with the new Brotman Baty Institute (BBI) for Precision Medicine and GeneDx, has an outstanding opportunity for a Genetic Counselor to implement and facilitate human genetics research studies. Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Genetic Counselor will assist with the conduct of human subjects research studies while ensuring research projects are conducted in compliance with federal regulations, institutional/departmental guidelines, and standards of Good Clinical Practice.

Genetic Counselor II: Care for families with rare diseases is often empirical, imprecise, and modestly effective – leaving substantial room for improvement. SeqFirst is an innovative study to evaluate whether offering whole genome sequencing (WGS) as a first line test facilitates genetic diagnosis, improves outcomes, and reduces cost. The Division of Genetic Medicine in collaboration with the new Brotman Baty Institute (BBI) for Precision Medicine and GeneDx, has an outstanding opportunity for a Genetic Counselor to join our team. The Genetic Counselor will:

• • Lead the expansion of the SeqFirst study to multiple clinical sites thereby providing broader and more equitable access to WGS
  • Develop new workflows and processes for the return of genetic test results to research participants
  • Assist with creating and performing quality assessment and improvement methods, identify eligible participants, consent and enroll families
  • Assist in the interpretation of WGS results, return genetic results to participants, and identify steps for follow-up testing and counseling of family members, when appropriate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A Master's Degree in genetics counseling or a related field from a program accredited by a national certification board for medical genetics personnel AND one year of experience as a Genetics Counselor I OR equivalent education/experience.
