The Culinary Services department at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a qualified candidate for a Cook position in our Catering & Events department.
Responsibilities will include: - Assist the sous chef with preparing hot and cold food for breakfast and lunch including eggs, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and soup. - Take inventory and restock products. - Maintain cooking equipment and a sanitary work environment. - Troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on the kitchen and coffee equipment. - Consistently provide quality food and beverages for all customers by adhering to the menu, health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. - Interact with customers and coworkers in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
Essential Duties Summary:
Education: High school degree is required.
Experience: Must have a minimum of one-year experience working in a food service establishment.
Knowledge/Skills: - Ability to follow instructions and proper sanitation procedures. - Ability to work as part of a team and maintain an organized work space. - Ability to accept change of direction in work and priorities with a positive attitude. - Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality. - Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming. - Proficient in Outlook and Excel preferred. - Knowledge of a point-of-sale system preferred. - Nassau County Department of Health sanitation certificate preferred. - Ability to understand the Spanish language is helpful.
Working Conditions: - Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. - Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. - Receiving of information through oral communication and a computer. - Exposure to heat and noise.
