The Psychiatry Department is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics who will be a highly-motivated Bioinformatics scientist to work at the forefront of genomics research on mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder. The Sr. Bioinformatics will serve as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary genomics research team by developing and implementing software tools, pipelines and workflows for analyzing high-throughput genomics, epigenomics, and transcriptomics data.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply computational and statistical methods for the integrated analysis of high throughput sequencing studies that include whole genome, whole exome, methylation, RNA sequencing, single cell and/or liquid biopsy platforms.
- Analyzing longitudinal, cross-sectional and clustered data using a variety of standard statistical techniques, including linear and logistic regression, mixed effects models, survival analysis, principal component analysis, and others as needed.
- Merging data, creating, and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses.
- Interpreting, presenting and summarizing analyses in various formats including tables, graphics, oral reports, and written reports. This includes internal presentations within the center as well as external communications to collaborators across institutions and conferences.
- Provide statistical advice to faculty, staff & graduate students as needed in regards to study design, sample size and power analysis, etc.
- Develop analysis methodology leveraging high dimensional multi-omics sequence data, including defining in detail data requirements, data sources and proper data collection procedures.
- Develop and implement data collection quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results.
- Carry out data analyses in parallel on large compute cluster; integrate, organize and analyze program output.
- Manage research datasets on file servers and ensure their appropriate backup, completeness, correctness and integrity.
- Prepare reports of findings by compiling results, generating figurers, and preparing tables from analyses of genomic studies.
- Perform data analysis and interpretation; utilize knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis.
- Assist in preparing scientific presentations, grant applications and manuscripts, with the opportunity if appropriate to present at meetings and contribute as a lead and/or co-author on manuscripts.
- Liaise with external collaborative groups independently of the PI to present research updates and facilitate research with external collaborators.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Master's Degree in Biostatistics or related field.
- 3 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Bioinformatics. Doctoral Degree preferred.
- Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment and managing large datasets.
- Experience using analytic software such as R, SAS or Stata.
- Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.

- Ability to interact with faculty and staff on research teams, in clinical programs, and with educational outreach initiative to strategize about their communication needs.
- Attention to detail a must.
- Good proofreading skills.
- Excellent oral communication skills to deal effectively within and outside the department.
- Excellent written communications skills in a variety of forms, print material, website content, speeches, and publicity materials.
- Knowledge of and aptitude for graphic design and typography.
- Skilled in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher.
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn about the work of the department as well to acquire new technical skills as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in an environment that requires balancing multiple assignments.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultures.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and/or programming language such as Python or Perl.
- Knowledge of web programming a plus.
- Strong oral and written communications skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
