Head of Data Science - Exploratory Immuno-Oncology
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Internal Number: 334694BR
1 purpose....to reimagine medicine!
This is an exciting opportunity to develop and implement the strategy for Immuno-Oncology (IO) Data Science, represent IO data science across the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, and join the Oncology Data Science Leadership Team to ensure strategic coordination and collaboration.
Novartis Exploratory Immuno-Oncology (eIO) is dedicated to discovering innovative cancer therapeutics and therapeutic formats that transform patients' lives. The candidate will be responsible to ensure and foster the scientific and operational excellence of the bioinformatics group, thereby defining the bioinformatics strategy for the department, spanning across the immuno-oncology (IO) portfolio. The successful candidate will become a member of the leadership team of a dynamic, multidisciplinary discovery group interrogating novel immuno-oncology targets and will be expected to constructively contribute to the overall strategy, portfolio management and operational aspects. The successful candidate will bring computational biology expertise, from target identification through early clinical development that increases our understanding of critical immune and non-immune networks following perturbation of key immune pathways. This position will be ideal for those candidates wishing to combine their interest in immunobiology of cancer with their strong desire to discover and help develop therapeutic approaches at the interface of computational biology and translational drug discovery. By applying innovative and interdisciplinary thinking towards the development of novel computational approaches, the candidate will be responsible for developing cutting-edge methods and integrative analysis to understand the disease. Through excellent coaching and mentoring skills, the candidate is expected to foster talent development within the organization.
This opportunity is located at the Novartis Cambridge site, and will not have the ability to be located remotely.
Your Key Responsibilities: *Lead the eIO bioinformatics team *Perform and drive innovative analyses *Work closely with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive project solutions, analyze and interpret high-dimensional biological data (e.g., bulk RNAseq, single-cell/CITE RNAseq, CRISPR screens, proteomics) to inform critical project decisions. *Develop and implement custom state-of-the-art computational methods and data mining strategies to apply to data sets to enhance understanding of key challenges in immuno-oncology drug discovery. *Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize novel target biology and follow perturbation of immune pathways to deepen our understanding of drug resistance and help devise strategies to overcome them *Coordinate with different functional teams to implement predictive models and monitor outcomes *Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy. *Formulate testable biological hypotheses and collaborate in the design of rigorous preclinical experiments
